2010 and my resoloutions

Wow so what happened to 2009? It just flew past me these last few months and I haven't updated this blog in forever! So I thought I would start with a simple list of things I want to do better in 2010 - now I cant promise I'll lose 10 pounds, or solve world peace - so I figured I'd focus on the little things, things that should be easy for me to achieve. and if I fail at this , well, then I guess I'm screwed!

#1. Enjoy more live music more often. Go to gigs, listen to it at home, get excited about something that was once my life once again.

#2. In line with number one - update my itunes - the thing is like 4 years old with zero new music on it - I mean literally nothing. Its not that I haven't bought music in that time, I'm sure I have, I just don't know where it is. Oh and I need new playlists - more mood defining ones I think.

#3. Tighter control over the Netflix account - I mean seriously getting Barton Fink on DVD was the last straw - and I'm tired of the "Was it you? It wasn't me" discussions with the hubbo. Oh and I'll return them a little faster this year - try to aim for within a week shall we?

#4. Take up a hobby - anything to get me out of the house and doing an activity that gives me a little me time, and no I suppose manicures and pedicures wont count. I also cant count photography as that is work, tho it should still be fun (more of that later #8).

#5. Play more music to my son Jack - he's at that amazing age where he's soaking up everything I say and do right now so I want him to love and understand music. Teach him all I know and hopefully one day he will return the favor.

#6. Bring lunch with me to work at least once a week. Now its not that hard really is it? Yes it is. but Once a week? I think I can manage that. well , I'll try.

#7. Make more of an effort to dress up a bit, be smarter at work, a touch more make up, maybe brush my hair once in a while? I don't know at what point my appearance went the way of lie ins and large nights out but its time to claim a smidgen of it back!

#8. To photograph for fun and for me. Again. remember that? Pre holiday Season? when you used to LOVE picking up the camera every weekend and got a kick out of what you did with it. Lets try again.

Polaroid lives on.... Maybe...

I was sad when I realized that my once large stock of polaroid film was running low to the point of total depletion, and with makers discontinuing the film last year its getting harder to replace but then I read this great article in the New York Times about a bunch of Eastern European entrepreneurs wanting to remake the classic film in a factory somewhere in the Netherlands...

Great news, but I wont get overly excited till its avail for purchase once again as I suspect there's a long road ahead of these scientists!

Strawberry Swing

I've been listening to Coldplay a lot recently - they just fit my life so well right now (and I did just catch them in concert at Shoreline which was pure awesomeness). So you can imagine I was super excited to see this new video from them for strawberry swing, and blown away by the sheer beauty of this animation - I don't even know what you call it, but I know it would have taken a LONG time to create and a lot of lying on the floor and for that dedication I salute you Mr.Martin!

Stop Motion

I am really getting into stop motion video these days, not making my own of course - lord knows I don't have time for that!! But I really appreciate the work of others who do dedicate the time. Its a painstaking process but when done right results in beautiful seamless movies.

This is a stunning video from Olympus showing the development of friendships over time...... Love the soundtrack too!

Eclectic 3.0

I cane across this video whilst nosing through the New York Times' blog Lens (a great read by the way) - and the visual quality of this work is just stunning, I love the use of tilt shift and the way it makes everything have that Toy Town look - just stunning.

I dont like monday

Today was D -Day...Daycare day - the first time in my son's little life that he wont be with me or grandma and will go and be with other kids day in day out. I think he's ready for it, and I know he'll enjoy it - I just wasn't prepared for quite how heartbreaking a thing it would be.

He cried, I cried, he sobbed mama, I broke into little pieces inside. and I left.

I know he's ok there, and I know that as soon as I've gone he will be happy and play and learn so much from the other kids but it still physically hurt to leave him.

Tomorrow is Tuesday, Day 2 of the daycare project. I hope it gets easier.
